Curriculum Design - Intent, Implementation and Impact
"...Leaders have developed an ambitious and well-organised curriculum that is designed to help pupils to build up their knowledge over time. The curriculum includes the key vocabulary and knowledge required to prepare pupils for the demands of the key stage 2 curriculum."
Ofsted Inspection Report, 23 November 2021
Intent
At Great Moor Infant School we are committed to ensuring our children receive a broad, balanced, engaging and ambitious curriculum which engages and enthuses every child. We aim to provide opportunities for children to develop as independent, confident and ambitious, lifelong learners. Our curriculum is designed to promote our school values as well as developing skills and knowledge.
Implementation
Our curriculum is designed to encompass the demands of the EYFS Framework and National Curriculum, whilst also being reflective of local contexts. It provides opportunities for the application of numeracy, literacy and computing skills through an integrated cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning. Effective subject planning and progression ensures that learning is embedded with key questions encouraging children to reflect upon previous learning and to make connections between new and existing learning. We encourage adults and children to use both rich language and precise vocabulary linked to the subject area that they are studying so that they can understand it and can then use it to reason, articulate and make generalisations.
Impact
Children’s knowledge, understanding and progress across all subject areas as well as their desire and ability to learn will be measured by:
- Childrens voice
- Work watch
- Lesson observations-monitoring of learning not teaching
- Data scrutiny
- Learning walks
- Regular ‘drop-ins’
- Floorbooks
- Cluster moderations
